City of Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki is Greece's second major economic, industrial, commercial and political centre, and a major transportation hub for the rest of southeastern Europe; its commercial port is also of great importance for Greece and the southeastern European hinterland

This city is a popular tourist destination in Greece. A city of diverse beauty and hospitable people. Thessaloniki has always been a crossroad of civilizations, a place where the East and West meets, where great cultures and religions have been mixed. Gastronomy, events, world-class heritage sites, shopping are some of the things that visitors can indulge in.

The compact size of the city and the walking distance proximity of the top-attractions make Thessaloniki an ideal city-break destination.

Thessaloniki lies on the northern fringe of the Thermaic Gulf on its eastern coast and is bound by Mount Chortialis on its southeast. Its proximity to imposing montain ranges, hills and fault lines, especially towards its southeast have historically made the city prone to geological changes.

Municipality of Thessaloniki is the partner #4 of the MEDSEATIES project.
